Dr. Ian Church B.V.Sc, M.A.C.V.Sc.
Ian was brought up in Melbourne and graduated from Melbourne University in 1985. He has a wealth of experience and been based in a wide range of locations including Scotland, England, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Florida and Adelaide prior to settling down as a partner in Flemington Equine Clinic. He has a broad knowledge of equine sports but has a particular affection for racetrack practice and polo which he played.
Having worked at a number of other racetrack practices in Australia, Ian has an advanced knowledge of what it takes to satisfy our thoroughbred training clients.
Dr. Tom Brennan B.V.Sc
Tom was brought up on the family farm in central Queensland where he developed his love of horses, especially racehorses. In 1999, Tom graduated from the University of Queensland and began working in Roma, western Queensland as a mixed animal veterinarian.
In May 2001, Tom began working at Flemington in a racetrack practice and has since taken the step up to become a partner in Flemington Equine Clinic. Tom has special areas of interest and experience in the industry including all aspects of stable veterinary needs, yearling sale preparations and yearling sale inspections with a wide ranging reputation for his abilities in deciphering and reporting on radiographs.
Dr. Stuart Vallance BVSc (Hons) Diplomate ACVS (Specialist Equine Surgeon)
Stuart grew up with horses on his family's sheep and cattle farm near Ballarat, Victoria. He studied veterinary science at the University of Melbourne and graduated with first class honors in 2005. Following this he moved to Sydney to undertake an internship at Randwick Equine Center. Stuart then moved to the northern hemisphere, and worked as an ambulatory race and sport horse veterinarian in Surrey, United Kingdom.
In 2008, Stuart began his specialist training in equine surgery at the University of California, Davis, USA. During this time Stuart pursued his interest in orthopedics and advanced imaging and published numerous peer reviewed scientific publications on scapular fractures in racehorses, haemarthrosis (joint bleeding), superficial digital flexor tendinopathy and comparative imaging using computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.
Stuart became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2012, which qualifies him as a Specialist Equine Surgeon. Stuart is available for lameness, imaging or surgical consultations, and is available to perform orthopedic, respiratory and general surgical procedures.
Dr. Katria Lovell B.V.Sc (Hons) B.Sc (Equine)
Katria moved to Victoria in December 2011 to take up a position as part of the team at Flemington Equine. With both parents as vets, Katria was destined to work in the industry. She grew up around animals and veterinary practice, with horses having always been the focus.
Having ridden competitively for many years, Katria is particularly interested in elite performance horse management, and has a passion for the racing industry. She is also a state representative for the young member branch of the Equine Veterinarians Australia. Katria has been lucky enough to be exposed to all major aspects of equine medicine and surgery through her previous work in the family's Queensland equine veterinary hospital, and is looking forward to further developing her interest and skills in the diagnosis and management of conditions affecting elite performance and racing horses.
GEELONG BRANCH
Dr. Catherine Brown B.V.Sc (Hons)
After growing up in the Northern Territory and Queensland, Catherine graduated from the University of Queensland in 2004. Following more than two years of mixed practice, Catherine decided to pursue her passion of equine reproduction and stud medicine.
Travel followed completing stud breeding seasons in Victoria, England, Queensland and Ireland. Working with both sport horses and thoroughbreds Catherine gained experience in both natural and artificial reproduction, including embryo transfer, as well as mare and foal medicine. Catherine's stint in Ireland involved working and lecturing students at the Irish National Stud and recently completed an externship in equine theriogenology and medicine in Kentucky.
Returning from Ireland Catherine joined Flemington Equine Clinic in August 2010. Her primary interests are equine reproduction and stud medicine.
Dr. Carl Barker B.V.Sc (Hons)
Hailing from Stanthorpe in Queensland, Carl spent his early childhood in a country environment, developing his passion for both horses and hard work. Whilst studying veterinary science in Brisbane, Carl worked at the Eagle Farm Equine Veterinary Hospital as an after hours and weekend assistant. It was while working here that he was inspired to specialise in horses.
Carl graduated in 2009 from the University of Queensland and undertook an internship at the Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital where he was educated in all major areas of equine veterinary work both inside and outside their surgical facility. After thoroughly enjoying the internship, Carl began working at Flemington Equine Clinic in 2011 and is currently based in Geelong. Carl is focused on developing his already considerable skills in both stud medicine and racetrack work.
Mornington Branch
Dr Adam Matthews B.V.Sc
Adam spent his formative years growing up in Essendon and currently still resides only a stone's throw away from Flemington racecourse. His home away from home was his grandparent's beef cattle farm in Victoria's Western District. It is there that Adam developed his love for animals namely cattle and horses.
In 2005, Adam graduated from the University of Melbourne, and commenced work as an intern at an equine hospital on the Gold Coast. It is from there that his interest in racehorses flourished.
Being a Melbourne boy at heart Adam returned to Victoria in 2007 and practiced exclusively as a racetrack veterinarian and he has not looked back.
Adam joined the team at Flemington Equine in April 2011. Adams special interests include racetrack practice, pre purchase examinations, and acute lameness.
Dr Adian Glynn B.V.Sc
Aidan Glynn is of Irish descent and grew up in Johannesburg South Africa where he graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2000 after which he joined Fourways Equine Clinic in Johannesburg. It was here he developed an interest and passion in racetrack practice and serviced some of South Africa's leading thoroughbred trainers.
Aidan also spent time in the UK where he gained experience in the Eventing Industry and polo before returning to South Africa's racing scene.
He relocated to the Gold Coast in July 2008 where he worked primarily in racetrack work before moving to Flemington Equine Clinic in April 2011. Aidan has gained vast experience in all aspects of equine sporting disciplines with particular interest in all aspects of thoroughbred race horse veterinary management.
